Job Description:

A Secondary Social Studies teacher who is flexible and willing to teach throughout the Secondary Continuum. This is a coeducational international school in Korea for children from Nursery to Year 11 (UK) or Grade 10 (US). They follow the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC), International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC). They are a truly international school, currently with around 150 students from all over the world. Teacher will be working at an exciting time in expanding the Secondary Section to complement the already well established Primary and Middle Years.

TASKS:

  • Teach Middle Years Geography and History and Higher Years History and Global Perspectives to IGCSE and A-Level
  • Differentiate for different learning needs where appropriate
  • Undertake any additional duties pertinent to the success of the secondary curricula
  • Attend an annual residential trip
  • Report to, inform and engage parents regularly via class blogs
  • Lead 1 after school activity per week and duties at selected break or lunch times
  • Write 2 reports a year, arrange parent-teacher conferences and learner-led conferences and any other conferences required
  • Contribute to school development in staff meetings and focus groups

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Geography, History or Social Studies
  • Teaching Qualification from the UK, US, CA, AU, NZ or ZA (For visa restrictions)
  • Subject knowledge in 2 disciplines preferred:  History, Geography, Global Perspectives, English and Computing/ICT
  • Able to teach GCSE/IGCSE or A-Levels

ABILITIES:

  • Passion for curriculum development with a pioneering mentality in implementing new curricula
  • Strong communication, including ICT skills, Google Educator certification is desirable
  • Ability to work independently as a subject leader within a cohesive secondary team
  • Desire to embrace continual professional development opportunities

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years Secondary teaching experience in one of the teaching subjects
  • Experience in 1 or more of IGCSE/GCSE, A-levels, IB diploma, IMYC
  • Experience of delivering exam courses
  • Experience of accreditation processes desirable

Monthly Salary Range:

TAX FREE 30,000,000 - 60,000,000 KRW Yearly ($25K - $50K USA) for 2 years for nationals from a range of countries with a tax treaty with Korea

Housing:

All teachers received a modern 3 bedroom apartment

PLUS:

1,000,000 KRW for PD Allowance ($840 USD)

After initial 2 year period Salary is increased one pay scale approximately 500,000 KRW ($400 USD)

Increased yearly after that by one pay scale

Health Insurance Coverage:

Private Medical Insurance is paid for Employee only

School and employee share in the cost of National Insurance coverage

Annual Air Tickets:

Annual Air fare paid for employee, spouse and up to 2 dependents under 18 years old

Leave:

60 days holiday per year + around 10 national holidays. Teachers can request up to 5 days personal leave

Plus 7 paid Sick days per year

Dependant School Fees:

The school fees are provided for FREE however they are subjected to tax (the amount related to salary level and spending so therefore figures can only be discussed on an individual basis). Based on children attending same school as employee

Visa & Medical Check Fees:

The school will reimburse all Visa and Medical Fees

End Of Service Benefit:

Reimbursement of one month salary for each year worked as per Korean Labour Law
